Information

The SyncML Initiative has defined WBXML (WAP Binary XML) definitions for SyncML XML documents in order to be able to transfer SyncML XML documents using the limited bandwidth offered by mobile connections in the most effective way. For more general information on WBXML please visit the WBXML specification page.
This decoder was built during an internship with France Télécom Recherche & Développement in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France. The main reason to start building this simple decoder (simple because it can only decode SyncML related WBXML documents) was that it turned out to be difficult to analyse test results of SyncML synchronisation sessions (the exchanged SyncML messages were sniffed from the WAP gateway used to synchronise). Using this decoder the binary encoded messages can be translated to human readable XML!

This decoder has been built and tested using the messages sniffed on our WAP gateway when synchronising several mobile phones. With these messages it works great, but there is of course no guarantee that it will work with all WBXML messages. If you tried the decoder and it shows you some error messages or when you think the output is not correct, please contact me at syncml@thover.com providing as much information as possible and I will try to solve the problem!

If you have any comments or any other problem regarding this decoder please do not hesitate to contact me!
